Early Reviews for Mapping Security:

“Tom Patterson captures a compelling and practical view of security in a multinational environment.  Your CSO needs to read this book!”

- Dr. Vint Cerf   SVP Technology Strategy, MCI

Thank you for your interest in my forthcoming book, Mapping Security. The book, due out in the first half of 2004, is a management-level source book for companies and organizations that are (or are planning to) doing business in more than one country. As you might suspect, that is more often the case now, with supply chains, customers, and outsourced operations reaching across the map just to stay competitive.

There needed to be a source book to help guide companies with security, once they (or their extended organization) leaves the comfort of their home rules. Mapping Security is just that, a corporate security sourcebook for today's global economy.

Written in three sections, at just over 300 pages, section one provides a management-level view of the six imperatives for any company doing business abroad, with clear real-world examples of each imperative.

Section two offers the regional specifics, broken down by region, continent, and key countries. This section includes local best practices and regulations, local security trends, local CSO perspectives (including illuminating personal profiles of the CSOs), local practitioner perspectives, tables of local resources for learning more (including key summary information for each entry), and fascinating local corporate examples that are both interesting and informative.

Section three is entitled "Whose Law Do I Break", which is an actual question that I've faced from clients struggling with finding their balance between their own corporate risk profile, and the myriad local laws/rules/regulations that attach themselves to corporate data every day. This section helps map out a strategy for operating a business in today's environment.

Finally, there is a vast appendix, which is already becoming a key resource for executives, board members, managers, and corporate security personnel. Complete with country by country listings, it details where to go for accurate information on the regulations, threats, and countermeasures you will face in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to check out the early reviews on this book. We'll be sure to keep you posted as publication time draws nearer.

Securely yours,

Tom Patterson
